Kaltern

A bathhouse for friends among vineyards in Kaltern Lavardi.
An interpretation of structures shaped by water over time, weaving the topography of the site with volumes and voids. Clear lines and delicate structuring of surfaces generate a play of light and shadow, creating an atmosphere of tranquility and relaxation, a place for the sensual experience of the element of water.

The architectural concept of the bathhouse is characterized by a two-level structure. The foreground features the representation areas, while the background discreetly integrates the technical facilities. The ground floor welcomes visitors with a spacious lounge and relaxation area complemented by ancillary rooms. A striking feature is the front water basin, serving as a source for the dominant waterfall and establishing a sensual connection to nature. On the upper level, the cantilevered pool sits atop, surrounded by an inviting sun deck as well as a sauna and washing area. These are blended with the surrounding landscape and the building through ramps and stairways.

The architectural concept is defined by the use of concrete with blast furnace cement as the dominant material. Smooth-finished, bush-hammered, and polished, the concrete forms the distinctive structure in the outdoor area. Yellow sun protection tiles and plastered interior surfaces, reminiscent of the yellow lichen-covered retaining walls in the surroundings, lend the interior a natural color scheme and a connection to the surrounding landscape.
